Which browsers can handle Cindy?

Cinderella is written in the Java programming language, version 1.1. If you use a recent browser you will not have any trouble, but if you use an outdated version of Netscape or Internet Explorer the applets will not show up.

Here is a list of browsers which are known to work with Cinderella:

On the Cinderella CD you can find Netscape Navigator 4.5, or you can download a recent version from Netscape
Now!. Microsoft Internet Explorer is available at http://www.microsoft.com/ie.

Known Browser problems:
Problem Description Workaround/Solution
Wrong calculations in Netscape The area measurements have little rounding errors (i.e. 8.99 instead of 9). Try another browser, else none.
Security exceptions with Internet Explorer The applet does not show up and the status line reports a Security Exception. Only occurs with files that were started from the local harddisk (no problem across the web) Update the Java Virtual Machine from Microsoft
Applet does not show up Instead of an applet there is only a grey rectangle Are you using a 1.1-compatible browser? If so, wait for the complete applet to be downloaded (on a slow connection this can be several minutes). With Netscape it might help to move the mouse.
Applet does not show up (II) Instead of an applet there is only a grey rectangle Are you using a proxy or is your computer behind a firewall? This could be the reason, ask your network administrator for help. Maybe you can configure your browser to "trust proxies".
Cannot move anything The applet just looks like a non-interactive image. Nothing can be moved. Enable Java (Edit/Preferences/Advanced in Netscape).
